The Origins of Walt Disney World
People have been enjoying the wonders of Walt Disney World for decades. The more curious tourists however have
more than just amusement in their minds.
Many have also wondered how such a magical place all began.
Disney World as it is now often called started with the vision of a great man. In 1955 Disneyland Park in
California, which was the first of its kind, opened in Anaheim, California. Although this initial project already
offered truly magical experiences for countless children and tourists, Walt Disney began to have a grander dream
born out of market surveys and changing times. Thus, he set a path to Orlando, Florida. Here he gradually bought
land until his company was able to acquire 27,400 acres of land.
Unfortunately, Walt Disney died in 1966 before he could even witness the realization of his dream. It was his
brother Roy who would continue building his brother’s legacy. It was Roy who was ultimately responsible for
christening the property Walt Disney World in honor of his brother. The area officially opened to the public in
1971.
Today, Disney World has four major theme parks. Magic Kingdom is often seen as the most popular especially among
kids. The other three parks however are equally significant. EPCOT in particular holds some sentimental value
because it is the representation of Walt’s dream of creating a futuristic city. The end result would be different
from what Walt envisioned but the park is a testament to his enduring vision. The last two parks are Disneyland’s
Hollywood Studios and Disney’s Animal Kingdom.
Aside from the major theme parks, Disney World also holds many other attractions. These include Downtown Disney,
Typhoon Lagoon, Disney’s Board Walk and Disney’s Wide World of Sports Complex.
Disney World is also home to a variety of accommodations ranging from value to deluxe resorts. Enjoy the sights
and sounds while lounging next to them in Disney’s All-Star Music Resort, Disney’s Caribbean Beach Resort and
Disney’s Beach Club Resort among others.
It’s hard to come by a place that is as grand and majestic as Walt Disney World. If nothing else, you just can’t
help but marvel at how long and hard Walt worked for its realization.
